The agency of Cities for Urban Cleanliness (AVPU) estimates that the cost of urban cleanliness will be €56 per year per citizen in 2019, compared to €42 in 2017.

Whether it is waste thrown on the public highway or waste from economic activities, urban cleanliness and waste management is a major political issue for which municipalities and inter-municipalities are responsible. Between awareness of environmental impacts and the economic potential of reusing certain resources, urban waste management is taking a more strategic turn.

The entry into force on January 1 of the anti-waste law to limit the proliferation of packaging, as well as the financial support of 500 million euros provided by the recovery plan, bodes well for the cleanliness of cities and the comfort of citizens.

In this context, we observe different approaches to respond to this problem across the entire value chain, from the optimization of collection processes (examples of CortexIA and BrighterBins) to sorting systems and the transformation of waste into resources (example of Tryon Environnement).

We invite you to discover the pitches of these 3 startups from our ecosystem below. The subject of urban cleanliness was also the subject of an event on our Circular Cities and Territories platform. On this occasion, we welcomed AVPU, the city of Geneva and the startup CortexIA which presented the city-wide cleanliness indicator system they co-developed.
